Application of Methyl Silicone Fluids in Automobile Field

Methyl silicone fluid is colorless, odorless, non-volatile; insoluble in water, methanol, ethylene glycol, miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon tetrachloride or kerosene, has a small vapor pressure, higher flash and burn points. Methyl silicone oil has excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertness and small surface tension. It also has a low viscosity-temperature coefficient and high compression resistance. Methyl silicone fluid has viscosity-temperature properties, wide viscosity range, thermal stability, and high compressibility, and is widely used as shock absorption and damping oil in machine manufacturing, instrumentation, and instrumentation industries.

1. Automobile brake fluids based on relatively low viscosity methyl silicone oil

The United States began to try it out in 1967, published the DOT standard of FMVSS in 1975, and published the standard in 1978. Japan formulated the group standard JACASB8001 in 1980. American military vehicles, snowmobiles, and postal vehicles have been put into practical use. The advantages of silicone oil brake fluid are good thermal stability, small viscosity change, stable to mechanical shear, and no corrosion to metals. But compared with the ethylene glycol brake fluid, it is more expensive and difficult to popularize. Methyl silicone oil has the problem of shrinking the rubber cup, and it is necessary to add oily improver, anti-wear agent, moisture capture agent, rubber swelling agent, rust inhibitor, etc. In recent years, there has been development from methyl silicone oil to modified silicone oil, and practical results have been achieved.

2. Methyl silicone fluid has been put into practical use as damping oil for automobile engine cooling fans

Recently, in four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles, the use of methyl silicone oil with a drilling degree of about 10Pa·s as the viscous clutch oil can improve the switching operation of the drive mechanism and improve the performance of sharp turns or running in snow and mud.

High-viscosity methyl silicone oil is used for torsional vibration absorption and damping of internal combustion engines used in vehicles, ships and generators to improve the durability of internal combustion engines. Methyl silicone oil has a good effect as an anti-vibration oil for instruments. Silicone oil with appropriate viscosity can be selected according to the vibration force, and it is widely used in instruments for automobiles and airplanes.

Methyl silicone oil is used as a defoamer in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries; as a hair oil, hair cream, hair conditioner, hair fixer and sunscreen in the cosmetic industry.
