Application Prospect of Chlorosilane in Waterborne Coatings

The use of chlorosilane in waterborne coatings can significantly improve the film's leveling, smoothness, gloss, anti-adhesion, water resistance, chemical resistance, high temperature resistance, stain resistance and printing resistance. The application of organosilone in waterborne wood coatings mainly includes the physical blend and chemical modification of organochlorosilanes and resins.

1. Application of chlorosilane in waterborne coatings

A modified organosilicone polymer, used as an auxiliary agent for waterborne wood coatings, greatly improves its compatibility with waterborne wood coatings, and can significantly improve the leveling, lubricity, gloss, adhesion resistance and chemical resistance of the coatings. Stable organosilicon acrylate emulsion can be synthesized by the reaction of silane coupling agents and vinylacrylic acid. This coating has excellent scrub resistance to methyl acetone. Emulsion polymerization of acrylic acid and hindered vinyl chlorosilane with slow hydrolysis rate can increase the content of silicone grafted onto acrylic resin, and improve the polymerization stability and storage stability of silicone acrylate emulsion, which has good acid and alkali resistance, high and low temperature resistance and electrolyte resistance.

2. Chlorosilane is most widely used in waterborne polyurethane and acrylic emulsion

Waterborne wood coating is one of the emerging technologies in the coating industry. Although it has gained development in recent years and achieved quite good results, further efforts are needed in production technology and marketing. To further improve and develop high-performance defect-free waterborne wood coatings system, the research and development of waterborne wood coatings can be carried out from the following aspects, one of which is that, introducing components with special functions (such as fluorine-containing and silicon-containing polymers) into the waterborne polymer chain through molecular design and molecular-cutting technology, so as to provide the polymer film with versatility, and further develop the waterborne wood coating market.

With the further study on the structure, properties and film forming process of chlorosilane waterborne resin, combined with the new waterborne polymer synthesis technology, waterborne wood coatings will become easy to process, and properties of the film will become easy to design and optimize, so as to meet different applications. The use of waterborne polyurethane in wood coatings has a lot of advantages, which are easy processing with good leveling, chemical resistance and hard and tough film, etc.
