Application Research of Silane Coupling Agents in New Materials


The application of Silane Coupling Agents is extremely wide, it can be used to treat organic materials as well as inorganic materials. After treatment with silane coupling agent, certain properties of the material can be significantly improved. Here are some specific applications of silane coupling agent in new materials.


Applications of silane coupling agents in optical materials


By adding different mass fractions of silane coupling agents (0.5%-3.0%) to the organic carrier of aluminum paste, the influence of surface tension, surface scratches, gray scale, and conductivity of the aluminum film was studied. The result shows that when w (silane coupling agent) is 2.5%, the surface tension of the organic carrier can be decreased from about 30mN/m to 25.69mN/m, which enhances the adhesion between aluminum powder particles and between the aluminum film and the silicon wafer, thus reducing scratches and graying, and reducing the contact resistance of the aluminum electrode from 0.60Ω to 0.19Ω.


Another application of silane coupling agents is in the luminescent performance of glass, which is modified with silane coupling agent-doped Pb-Sn-fluorophosphate glass. The specific operation is: silane coupling agent dissolved with Q3 was used to modify SnF2 powder, and the modified SnF2 powder was beneficial to improve the dispersion of organic dye Q3 doping. The Q3-doped organic/inorganic hybrid glass was obtained by adding Q3-containing modified SnF2 powder into low melting point lead-tin fluorophosphate glass. This glass has better transmittance and uniformity.


Applications of silane coupling agents in nanomaterials and composite materials


Composite materials are becoming more popular due to their excellent performance. However, the inherent shortcomings of composite materials cannot be eliminated. By adding silane coupling agent, better composite materials can be prepared. The addition of coupling agents to nanomaterials acts like a reinforcing agent and significantly improves the properties of the material.


Applications of silane coupling agents in electrochemical materials


The study on the effect of silane coupling agents on electrochemical materials is not very extensive. South China Normal University has studied the effect of silane coupling agents on the sealing of magnesium electrodes. They used a dipping process to treat the surface of the magnesium metal with silane coupling agent and then sealed it to prepare a magnesium electrode. The results of comparative analysis show that both types of silane coupling agents can improve the performance of magnesium electrodes.


Applications of silane coupling agents in dentistry


With the improvement of living standards, the probability of tooth decay increases due to careless eating habits. Therefore, people use dental porcelain to fill teeth, and the performance of dental porcelain plays an important role in tooth filling. It needs to withstand great resistance while having good adhesion to the teeth, and silane coupling agents can complete this task.


Silane coupling agents can effectively increase the shear strength between the porcelain and the metal bracket, and there is no significant difference between the effect of single-component silane coupling agent and double-component silane coupling agent. The maximum shear strength can be obtained when the photo-curing composite resin adhesive is used together with the double-component silane coupling agent. The resin-modified photo-cured glass ionomer adhesive is not suitable for bonding metal brackets to porcelain surfaces.
