When using silane coupling agents to treat inorganic surface materials, more is not better. The ideal amount is enough to form a monolayer of the silane coupling agents on the surface of the inorganic material, where it can react with the hydroxyl groups and improve the hydrophobicity. If too much silane coupling agents are used, the agent will hydrolyze and cross-link, which will reduce the mechanical properties of the material.
Physical form: colorless or slightly yellow liquid. Boiling point: 290℃. Solubility: soluble in water, and undergoes hydrolysis reaction at the same time, releasing methanol. It is soluble in alcohols, acetone, and most fatty esters at normal usage levels of 5% or less.
It is one of the silane coupling agents containing epoxy groups, used for gap-filling and sealing agents for polysulfides and polyurethanes, as well as adhesive, filling, or reinforcing thermosetting resins for epoxy resins, glass fiber adhesives, and thermoplastic resins filled with inorganic materials.
Silane coupling agent KH560 can enhance the electrical properties of epoxy resin electronic encapsulants, packaging materials, and printed circuit boards, and improve the bond strength between resin and substrate or filler.
Silane coupling agent KH560 can enhance the electrical properties of many inorganic filled composites, such as nylon and polybutylene terephthalate, with a wide range of fillers and substrates, including clays, talc, silica, quartz, and metals such as aluminum, copper, and iron.
Specific applications that benefit from adding silane coupling agent KH560 include quartz-filled epoxy sealant and premixed formulas, sand-filled epoxy resin concrete repair materials or coatings, and epoxy resin materials for tooling and metal filling.
It eliminates the need for separate primers in polysulfide and polyurethane sealants and gap-filling compounds.
Silane coupling agent KH560 can also improve the adhesion of water-based acrylic emulsion gap-fillers and silicone based sealant and the bonding in polyurethane and epoxy resin coatings.
To prepare a water-soluble solution for treating inorganic materials, use a concentration of 0.1%-0.5% silane. The water solution is first adjusted to a pH of 3.0-4.5 with 0.1% acetic acid, then the silane is slowly added with stirring. A clear water solution can usually be formed after stirring for 15 minutes. At high concentrations, KH560 may be unstable for a certain period of time, and polymeric siloxanes may settle out like oil after being left for a few days. Of course, KH560 can also be dissolved in many organic solvents and used as a solution. Without any solvent, the mineral filler can be mixed with the silane coupling agent under high shear for a few minutes. The glass or mineral filler treated with silane can be heated and dried at 105℃ to 120℃ to promote the condensation of the silanol group on the surface and to remove by-product methanol. The optimal drying conditions, such as time and humidity, should be selected according to the process.
