Silane Coupling Agent: A kind of Organosilicon Compound Containing Two Groups with Different Chemical Properties

The surface modification of non-metallic powder is to change the original physical and chemical properties of its surface according to the needs of the application of polymer products, that is, through the method of surface chemistry, the groups in organic molecules produce adsorption and chemical reaction on the surface of non-metallic particles, permitting the organization of non-metallic powder surface and to achieve surface modification.

Ⅰ. Silane coupling agents contain two groups with different chemical properties

Silane coupling agent is a kind of silicone compound with special structure whose molecules contain two groups with different chemical properties at the same time, between which Y group is more important. It has a great impact on the properties of organic polymer products and plays a role in determining the properties of coupling agent. Only when Y group can react well with the corresponding organic polymer materials can the properties of the base material be improved.

It is generally required that Y group should be well integrated with organic polymer materials and can play a role of coupling. Therefore, appropriate Y group silane coupling agent should be selected based on the different organic polymer materials.

Ⅱ. The selection of silane organosilicone is of vital importance for different base materials or treated objects

The surface modification of non-metallic powder is mainly to solve the following problems:

First, the dispersion of non-metallic powder; Second, the combination of powder and organic polymer materials interface; Third, the functionalization and specialization of powder after surface modification.

The use of organosilicon can basically solve the above problems. However, it is necessary to make a correct and targeted selection according to the structural characteristics of silane and its interaction mechanism with non-metallic powder, as well as the base material properties, main formula, process and technical requirements of downstream organic polymer products and the physical and chemical properties of non-metallic powder.

The surface modification of non-metallic powder is an important means of its deep processing. To do a good job in the surface modification of powder, we should first take the mechanism of surface modification as the basis, consider the base material of downstream organic polymer and the main formula of products, and reasonably select silane and compound special coupling agent; Second, determine the appropriate surface modification process; Third, select matching surface modification equipment in accordance with the mechanism and process of surface modification.
